The demonstration gives you an idea of how traffic is slowed up on your home router system in a typical home environment. Broadcom has a hardware accelerator that would allow you to get full gigabit service from the net, if your service provider offered it. In many instances this would not be possible on a standard router, so Broadcom’ s accelerator has a distinct advantage, especially in countries that already offer these advanced high speed internet services which can cater for high bandwidth streaming around the home or small business.

Smart TV from VIA @ Computex 2011

VIA’s Smart TV is based on the VIA Nano CPU and VX900 Chipset for encoding and processing as needed. On the software side, there is a smooth and functional user interface, the ecosystem challenges Google and Apple for streamed content options over the internet. In addition, managing your local media is also a snap. The handy remote/keyboard interface makes browsing and interacting easy. With many of the competitors designing apps from the mobile interface and forgetting that most don’t translate to the TV environment, whereas VIA have focussed specifically on the TV environment and enabled everything for convenience, although that being said, you still have to train your wife to fetch the beers.
